PRP, GFC or exosomes for hair loss? An honest comparison

When hair fall gets serious, the search results get confusing fast: PRP, GFC, exosomes, mesotherapy, each promising to be the one. They’re related, they overlap, and the right choice depends on your scalp — not on which is newest. Here’s how we actually think about it in the clinic.

The three, in plain language

What each one is

  • PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) — your own blood is spun down to concentrate platelets, then micro-injected into the scalp to signal follicles to strengthen.
  • GFC (Growth Factor Concentrate) — a refined step on from PRP: a higher, more standardised concentration of growth factors, again from your own blood.
  • Exosomes — lab-prepared growth-factor “messages” applied to the scalp to amplify the regenerative signal, often alongside PRP/GFC.

So which is right for you?

A rough guide (your specialist confirms)

  • Early to moderate thinning, cost-conscious — PRP is the proven workhorse.
  • Want a stronger, more standardised dose — GFC is the natural upgrade.
  • Advanced or plateaued cases — exosomes can be added to push the response further.
  • Needle-averse or unsure — a consultation and scalp analysis sort out the right path first.
Myth

PRP regrows hair on a bald patch.

Fact

These therapies strengthen and revive existing follicles — they don’t create new ones on truly bald scalp. They work best on thinning, not long-gone, hair.

Myth

One session is enough to see results.

Fact

A structured course of 4–6 sessions is what shifts things; a single sitting rarely does. Consistency beats intensity.

Myth

Exosomes are always better than PRP.

Fact

Newer isn’t automatically better. For many people PRP or GFC is the right, cost-effective answer; exosomes earn their place in specific cases.

The honest bit about results

None of these is a transplant, and none is magic. What they do well is reduce shedding, thicken existing hair and buy time on a scalp that’s thinning — especially when started early. Paired with the right medical advice, they’re one of the safest things you can do for your hair, because the active ingredient in PRP and GFC is literally your own blood.

Results vary with the cause and stage of hair loss. A scalp assessment is the only honest way to know what a course will do for you.

If your parting is widening or your ponytail is thinner than it was, don’t wait for a bald patch to act — early is when these treatments work best. Our hair specialists run PRP, GFC and exosome therapy across our clinics and will tell you honestly which one (if any) fits your case.

Quick answers

Which is better, PRP or GFC?

GFC delivers a higher, more standardised concentration of growth factors than standard PRP, so many clinics consider it a step up. Both use your own blood; the right choice depends on your scalp and budget, confirmed at consultation.

Are exosomes better than PRP for hair?

Not automatically. Exosomes can amplify results in advanced or plateaued cases and are often combined with PRP/GFC, but for early-to-moderate thinning PRP or GFC alone is frequently the right, cost-effective choice.

How many sessions of PRP or GFC will I need?

Most people need a course of 4–6 sessions spaced a few weeks apart, with reduced shedding usually visible by 8–12 weeks and maintenance sessions after. Your specialist sets the exact plan.
